The Haven Foundation has built 20 new homes as part of a new social housing development in Mooroopna, Victoria.
Housing Mooroopna by The Haven Foundation will provide safe and secure housing for people who are grappling with the cost of living crisis, soaring rents and high property prices.
The new development aims to create a peaceful environment for people of all ages, with a focus on community connection. It is scheduled to open in October 2023.The development features 20 self-contained homes, including nine two-bedroom units and 11 one-bedroom units, which will be available for people on or eligible for the Victorian Housing Register.
Housing Mooroopna is funded by the Victorian Government as part of the Build and Operate program to provide financial assistance for the construction and operations of social housing in partnership with community housing agencies. Housing Mooroopna by The Haven Foundation will be delivered in partnership with Mind Australia.
Each unit at Housing Mooroopna contains a main bedroom with built in robes, bathroom, laundry, kitchen, split system, smally balcony and a private outdoor area. The two-bedroom units have an additional bedroom.
Housing Mooroopna is also close to public transport, local shops and other amenities, so residents can build and maintain connection with community.
Mind Australia CEO Gill Callister said the development will provide much-needed housing solutions as communities across Australia wrestle with cost of living and rental pressures.
“Housing Mooroopna is an exciting development that comes at a crucial time when many people are struggling to find affordable homes,” Ms Callister said.
“Social housing is not just about putting a roof over someone’s head; it’s about empowering them and their loved ones to thrive.
“Housing Mooroopna will provide stability, security and a supportive community. We commend the Victorian government and Homes Victoria for providing funding for the construction and operations of social housing in partnership with community housing agencies.”
