In 2025 Mind Australia is proud to celebrate 10 years of supporting Queenslanders experiencing mental health challenges, as well as their families, carers and supporters.
Mind started operating in Queensland in 2015 when it opened the state’s very first Step Up Step Down service in Cairns, which we still proudly deliver to this day.
Since then, Mind’s service offering has grown considerably to provide a full spectrum of mental health care and support services. This includes:
- youth and adult Step Up Step Down services in Bundaberg, Caboolture, Gladstone, Logan and Mackay – short term support in a residential setting, providing an alternative to hospitalisation (step up) or transition from hospital back into the community (step down)
- the Individual Recovery Support Program – 12 months of personalised support to help people experiencing mental health challenges to live independently and well in the community. Available in Cairns, Innisfail, Mareeba and Mackay
- Crisis Support Spaces – a peer-led service that offers a safe space to help people overcome immediate distress in their lives. Available in Cairns and Mackay
- Youth Residential Rehabilitation – individual and group based support for young people experiencing mental health challenges that promotes resilience, healthy lifestyle choices, interpersonal skills and life skills in a residential setting. Available in Townsville
- community based residential recovery care – residential mental health recovery care that offers 24/7 support, including peer support, and group and one-to-one activities. Available in Cairns and Toowoomba
- a range of NDIS services, including Occupational Therapy, social work, psychology, positive behaviour support, support coordination and specialist support coordination.
Mind also partners with select health insurance providers to provide Queensland-based private health insurance recipients with recovery-focused mental health and wellbeing support. This includes Bupa clients through the Wellbeing 4 You Program, and Australian Health Service (AHSA) members via Wellbeing 4 Life.
These services are all integral parts of communities throughout Queensland, and there are more support services on the way.
“Mind Australia is a trusted psychosocial support provider with a proven track record of supporting Queenslanders experiencing mental health challenges,” Denise Cumming, Mind’s Executive Director of Operations for Queensland, said.
“Ten years in Queensland is an achievement we’re incredibly proud of. Our longevity and growth in Queensland is a testament to our dedicated and committed community mental health and peer practitioners who bring help, hope and purpose to the lives of the people we support.
